Guided School Tours

Tours Available Tuesday-Thursday, 10:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

The SAH&VC is designed to introduce you to the heritage, culture and history of Pima County and Tucson and the uniqueness and diversity of the Sonoran Desert, including the Sky Islands and the people that have inhabited and contributed to the development of this special land and communities.
Located in the Pima County Historic Courthouse, the SAH&VC tour also includes the January 8th Memorial and the Dillinger Courtroom.

The SAH&VC is also home to the official Tucson Visitor Center and the Loop Gift Shop.

Maximum Group Size - 36 Students

If your group is larger than 16, please plan to divide them into groups of 8, each group must be accompanied by an adult chaperone. We require one adult chaperone for every 8 students. Please be aware that is a Heritage Center and the official Tucson Visitor Center, therefore we require all guests to conduct themselves in a respectful manner. 

SAH&VC staff will provide an introduction and tour of the Southern Arizona Heritage Center and the Pima County Historic Courthouse, highlighting the history of the Courthouse, the heritage of southern Arizona, including the Dillinger Courtroom and the January 8th Memorial.

The SAH&VC tour will reinforce skills in

  • visual literacy
  • observation
  • listening
  • map reading
  • cultural competency


and awareness of

  • the Sonoran Desert area
  • Indigenous culture of the Sonoran Desert
  • Water and ecological knowledge
  • The impact of Spanish, Mexican, Indigenous and American cultures in the development and growth of Tucson and Southern Arizona.

  • In order that the SAH&VC staff be prepared to accommodate your group, pre-registration is required for all visits to the SAH&VC.

Parking

  • In order that the SAH&VC staff be prepared to accommodate your group, pre-registration is required for all visits to the SAH&VC.
  • Minimum 4 weeks advance notice
  • Bus drop-off area is available on Pennington St., between the Pima County Historic Courthouse and Superior Court. A surface parking lot that accommodates buses is available at 100 W. Franklin, 3 blocks south of the Pima County Historic Courthouse.
